OFFICER PROFILES

 

EDWIN (ED) R. COWHERD, RLS

Ed has been a member of SAMSOG since May 1974. Ed currently is Managing Member of Cowherd and Cowherd, LLC, dba Cowherd Land Surveying where he works with his youngest son, W. Kayle Cowherd, GA RLS 3023.   He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forest Management in December 1964 and served in The US Army from April 1965 until April 1969 in Vietnam as a 1st Lt and pilot of UH-1 helicopters. He resigned his commission in April 1969 as a Captain.
Upon leaving the Army, Ed worked as a forester with a major paper company and worked under various Land Surveyors until passing his LS exam and becoming licensed in Jan. 1971. After working as a surveyor for a number of years, Ed founded C&G Software Systems and began providing Land Surveying software to surveyors all over the world. Ed served as President and CEO of C&G Software Systems, Inc. until its sale in 2000, where he then served as a consultant to the buyers until relocating to Greene County, GA in January 2001.Over the years, Ed has served as president of the Atlanta SAMSOG chapter, State Director, and other positions in the state organization and at local levels in various chapters. Ed is currently a member of the Piedmont Chapter. Ed is a Southern Baptist Christian and is an ordained Deacon in the Baptist Church and is a member of Braids Baptist Church, Bairdstown, GA. Ed and his wife, Sherry G. Hart Cowherd, have three sons, Kery Shawn Cowherd, 42, Kevin Ray Cowherd, 39, and W. Kayle Cowherd, 36.
 
JAMES (JIM) M. ANDERSON, RLS
 
Jim graduated from Southern Technical Institute in 1975 with Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering Technology. Licensed surveyor in Georgia (LS 2113) & South Carolina (LS 9213) & an E.I.T. in Georgia, he started surveying business in 1979 and is still in business 30 years later.  He has served several terms as a SAMSOG director and is currently serving as the Georgia state Trig-Star coordinator for SAMSOG.  Jim has married to Gloria for 31 years, and has 2 children, Tiffany age 21 and Matt age 24. 
 
DALE YAWN, RLS
 
Born and raised in Savannah, Georgia. Started surveying with the Georgia State Highway Department (now Georgia DOT) staking out Interstate Highway 95 through Coastal Georgia. Worked with local surveyors in the Savannah area, and with a national engineering firm in Atlanta. Became licensed in Georgia in 1990, moved to Trussville, Alabama in 1992 and gained Alabama license. Returned to Savannah in 1993, and worked for a local engineering firm for 10 years. Became licensed in Florida in 2000. Started my own business, Yawn Land Surveys, in 2004. 
 
TRENHOLM (TREN) M. BAKER, RLS
 
Tren was licensed as a land surveyor in 1960 and has been a member of SAMSOG (formerly Georgia Association of Registered Land Surveyors) since 1960. Throughout his professional career has held the following SAMSOG positions:  Chapter Representative, Director, Vice President, and President.Currently he is Secretary /Treasurer of SAMSOG since 2001 and responsible for overseeing an annual budget of $200,000. He is editor of the Georgia Land Surveyor newsletter having serviced in this capacity since 1990 and responsible for an advertising income in excess of $10,000.  In 2006, he was awarded Lifetime Membership for outstanding service to SAMSOG and its membership.
